Your WestJet fare dropped $102

Here's exactly how to claim the difference.

The rules of the game

The fundamentals

Four things to know about WestJet price drops before deciding whether to claim one.

The 24-hour window

WestJet lets you change or cancel any fare within 24 hours of booking with no fee, UltraBasic included, as long as your flight is not leaving within the next 24 hours. If the price drops in that window, book the cheaper fare first to lock it in, then cancel the original in Manage Trips.

Flex fares pay in full

EconoFlex cancels with no fee and the whole fare goes to your Travel Bank, ready to pay for the cheaper ticket. PremiumFlex and BusinessFlex go further: no fee and a refund to your original card. On these fares every dollar of a drop comes back to you.

Econo pays a cancel fee

Econo, Premium and Business fares cancel for a fee, with the rest going to your Travel Bank. On most routes it is CA$100 to CA$118 per direction, per person, and more between Canada and Europe or Asia. A drop only pays when it is bigger than that fee.

UltraBasic has no way back

After the first 24 hours, UltraBasic fares cannot be changed and give no refund or future travel credit, however far the price falls. If you expect to watch the price, Econo or EconoFlex keeps the option to claim a drop open.
