Your Virgin Atlantic fare dropped $113

Here's exactly how to claim the difference.

The rules of the game

The fundamentals

Four things to know about Virgin Atlantic price drops before deciding whether to claim one.

The 24-hour window

Book on virginatlantic.com at least a week before departure and you can cancel without penalty within 24 hours. Virgin asks you to call its Customer Service Centre first and then apply for the refund, so do both inside the window. Book the cheaper fare before you cancel.

No price adjustments

Virgin Atlantic does not lower the price on a ticket you already hold. On Economy Light, Classic and Delight fares there is no way to turn a later price drop into money once the first 24 hours are over. Changing a ticket also reprices the whole trip, which can cost more.

Flex fares are the exception

Flex versions of Economy Classic, Economy Delight, Premium and Upper Class are fully refundable. On those you can cancel for a refund and buy the cheaper ticket, so a drop pays in full. If you expect prices to move, Flex is the fare that keeps that option open.

Check your fare type first

Your booking confirmation names your fare. If it says Economy Light, or Classic or Delight without Flex, a drop after the first 24 hours cannot be claimed, so there is nothing to chase. If it says Flex, cancel for the refund and rebook whenever the price falls far enough.
