Under US Department of Transportation regulations (14 CFR 259.5), any flight to, from, or within the US can be cancelled within 24 hours of booking for a full cash refund, as long as the flight departs 7 or more days away. This applies to all fare classes, including Basic Economy. It's the most powerful tool for capturing an immediate price drop, and Plot tracks your booking window in real time so you never miss it.
Yes, with caveats. During the DOT 24-hour window, Basic Economy is fully cancellable for a cash refund, just like any other fare. After that window closes, United, Delta, and American Basic Economy fares can still be cancelled for a $99–$199 fee. Plot accounts for that fee automatically and only alerts you when the net savings, after subtracting the fee, still exceed $50. If your fare is truly non-changeable (like some restricted international fares), we tell you upfront and stop monitoring.
Every airline's fee schedule is different, and we know all of them. Delta Basic Economy: $99. United Basic Economy: $99 domestic, $199 international. Alaska Saver: 50% of ticket value until 14 days out. We subtract the exact fee for your airline and fare class before calculating your net savings.
