What Avis charges to cancel
- Pay later
- A standard Avis reservation you pay for at the counter cancels with no fee. Bookings that needed a card to hold them, such as some specialty cars at peak times and some promotions, carry a $75 no-show fee unless you cancel at least 24 hours before pickup.
- Prepaid (Pay Now)
- A Pay Now rate costs $50 to cancel 24 hours or more before pickup and $150 inside 24 hours. A no-show gets no refund.
- Price guarantee
- Avis's Best Price Guarantee covers new bookings on avis.com made at least 72 hours before pickup. Find a lower Avis rate for the same rental within 24 hours of booking, and the guarantee matches the lower base rate and takes 10% off it. Other companies' rates do not count.
- Avis Preferred
- Add your Avis Preferred number when you book the lower rate, so the new reservation earns and gets member benefits like the old one.
Worth knowing
- Cancel on avis.com rather than in the app: the Avis app can stop you cancelling once a car is assigned.
- The Pay Now fee comes off the saving. A $60 drop is a loss if cancelling costs $150.
